Messi Sets New MLS Record in Inter Miami’s Dominant Win Over Toronto FC

Kathmandu:Lionel Messi has made history as the fastest player to reach 100 goal contributions in Major League Soccer (MLS) history. During Inter Miami’s 4–2 victory against Toronto FC on Saturday, Messi recorded one goal and two assists, bringing his total to 59 goals and 41 assists in just 64 league matches. He surpassed the previous record of 95 games set by Sebastian Giovinco.

The match, held at Toronto, saw Inter Miami secure their sixth consecutive away win.

Rodrigo De Paul opened the scoring in the 44th minute, firing home a rebound after his initial free-kick hit the wall. In the second half, Luis Suárez doubled the lead in the 56th minute following a combined setup from Messi and De Paul.

Inter Miami continued their clinical performance as substitute Sergio Reguilón scored his first goal for the club in the 73rd minute off a Messi assist. Shortly after, Messi found the net himself in the 75th minute to make it 4–0, marking his ninth goal of the season.

Although Toronto FC managed a late response with two goals from 20-year-old Emilio Aristizábal in the 82nd and 90th minutes, Inter Miami held on for the win. The match was briefly interrupted when several spectators ran onto the pitch to approach Messi. Across all competitions, Messi has now amassed 87 goals and 57 assists in 101 appearances for the Miami-based club.
